Medscape is reporting on a study in the September 2008 issue of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. A small randomized study shows eating pistachios may help decrease cardiovascular risk factors.

Some tips to help you deal with the economic crisis;
Keep an eye on your accounts receivables and credit limits.
Send invoices upon completion of work - don’t wait 30 days.
Offer more payment options.
Make collection calls only to someone with authority, not an assistant or clerk.
Be persistent and follow up.
Hold orders until balances have been paid.
Communicate!
Step up your marketing efforts.
Remember that you are not alone and you can do things to make it through these tough times.

I got this quote from a friend, so it may not be exact. Please forgive any small error, but it’s a great reminder of the importance of persistence. If you have a dream, go for it. And don’t give up!
“Brick walls are there for a reason. They are not there to keep us out. The brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something. The brick walls are there to stop people who don’t want it badly enough.” Randy Pausch, The Last Lecture

For some time now, I have taught licensing and publishing at various locations as a guest speaker and also in learning centers geared to 2-3 hour classes. As a licensed and published artist and author, I find it exhilarating to share my ideas with others who want to pursue this venue. I’m an art business coach who loves the business end of art as much as the creative end of it, which is a rarity I might add.
It can be scary. Don’t be misled when someone says, “Oh, I’ve done that, there’s nothing to it,” because there is much to it. I find that lecturing for a half hour to three hours simply isn’t enough time to cover what needs to be said and learned. Not that it takes a rocket scientist mentality to accomplish the feats of getting licensed or even published, but it does take tenacity (my favorite behavior) and goals to do so.
So… I decided the best way to help people would be to host a one day boot camp– a workshop where licensed, published and goals oriented people would come to speak. The idea sounded a whole lot easier than it really is to put this endeavor together, but I did what my goals guru recommended and laid out some goals, stuck to them fairly closely, and by gosh, I’m making some headway. I have the location set, the speakers lined up, the day and time all sorted out and I’m even halfway through the mailers and email end of the advertising. Whew! I’m tired just thinking about all that, but I’m having a great time.
If you ever think about stepping outside your comfort zone to take on an idea you have mulled over for a while, consider this….Goals will be the key to your success as long as you can stick to them and keep going. Take one step at a time and all will fall into place. (At least you hope so!)

Pareto’s Law, otherwise known as the 80/20 Rule or Principle, is well summarized by Tim Ferriss in his book, The 4-Hour Workweek. He says:
- 80% of the outputs result from 20% of the inputs
- 80% of the consequences flow from 20% of the causes
- 80% of the results come from 20% of the effort and time
- 80% of company profits come from 20% of the products and customers
- 80% of all stock market gains are realized by 20% of the investors and 20% of an individual portfolio
- etc.
How much more efficient, happy, healthy and prosperous can you be when you apply Pareto’s Law to your day?

Michael Masterson has an excellent article on goal-setting in The Total Package (Clayton Makepeace’s blog: www.makepeacetotalpackage.com ). For your “master plan,” he advises you make a list of seven and one-year goals. Support those with weekly and monthly objectives. And support those with daily tasks.
According to Michael, goals should be specific, actionable, time-oriented, and realistic. AND they should be WRITTEN! Studies show the most successful people have written goals.
Although, it seems simple to do this, it’s not always easy to take the time and effort to do it. That’s why I structured Power Journaling in a way to make it more palatable to write down plans and goals.
But, however you do it, make sure you do!
